Expulsion of 835 Foreign Nationals from Cambodia in February 2026

Background

On 11 February 2026, pursuant to high-level recommendations from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and directives from the leadership of the Ministry of Interior, the General Department of Immigration carried out the expulsion of 835 foreign nationals from Cambodia.

This operation targeted individuals involved in cybercrime and illegal immigration activities, forming part of Cambodia’s ongoing efforts to combat technological crimes and secure national safety.

Scope of Application

The expulsions encompassed 835 individuals, including 26 women, from ten countries: Cameroon, Nigeria, Liberia, the Philippines, Malaysia, China, Nepal, Pakistan, India, and Indonesia.

Notably, 319 Chinese nationals were expelled for their involvement in online scam operations. Other individuals faced expulsion due to illegal border crossing and unauthorized employment within Cambodia.

Key Provisions or Decisions

The expulsions strictly followed Cambodian government legal measures to address technology-based criminal acts and immigration violations.

The General Department of Immigration executed the removals through international airport police checkpoints and other border controls.

Implications for Investors, Businesses, or Compliance

This enforcement underscores Cambodia’s zero-tolerance stance on cybercrime and illegal immigration. Foreign nationals and businesses must ensure compliance with immigration and employment laws to prevent disruptions such as expulsions.

Authorities also facilitate assistance for victims coerced into deceitful activities, supporting their safe return to their home countries.
