Background
On February 10, 2026, the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI) organized a consultation workshop in Phnom Penh to review the draft National Strategy for the Development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) for the period 2026–2030. The workshop brought together approximately 200 participants representing relevant ministries, institutions, the private sector, development partners, and national and international organizations.
Key Provisions or Decisions
During the event, H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, underscored the pivotal role MSMEs play in Cambodia’s economy. MSMEs are recognized as essential drivers for job creation, innovation, and as foundations for scaling Cambodian products into regional and global markets. The Minister stressed the urgency of strengthening national support mechanisms aimed at improving MSMEs’ productivity and competitiveness.
Implications for Investors, Businesses, or Compliance
The forthcoming MSME development strategy is expected to provide a comprehensive framework to support the growth and sustainability of MSMEs across Cambodia. Businesses and investors should anticipate enhanced governmental focus on MSME sectors, potentially including improved access to resources, technology, and innovation support. This development is significant for economic diversification and inclusive growth.
