Background
In response to the need to improve living standards of the population, the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MLVT) organized a job forum in Kamrieng district, Battambang province, on February 28, 2026. This forum followed the ministry’s ongoing policy to facilitate employment and vocational training access at local levels under the slogan “Khmer Helping Khmer,” focusing on matching job seekers with available opportunities in the domestic labor market.
Scope of Application
The forum targeted local residents, including returning migrant workers and job seekers within Kamrieng district and the broader region. It formed part of a nationwide program where currently a total of 83,743 job openings are available across Cambodia. The event also supports youth participation in technical and vocational education and training (TVET), a national priority to strengthen workforce capacity.
Key Provisions or Decisions
The forum provided nearly 3,000 immediate job vacancies through direct recruitment efforts involving five large factories and enterprises. The Ministry emphasized the benefits of securing employment locally to avoid discrimination and risk, while promoting family cohesion. Workers employed under this program benefit from social security including free medical treatment and old-age income support as civil servants receive.
Implications for Investors, Businesses, or Compliance
Employers participating in the forum gain direct access to a pool of local labor, potentially reducing recruitment costs and delays. The initiative also complements national efforts to develop youth skills through TVET programs, improving the quality of the workforce. Businesses engaging with this scheme must coordinate with MLVT and adhere to social security and labor benefit provisions as indicated by the ministry.
