Background
On February 27, 2026, His Excellency Thor Chetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology and Chairman of the Cambodia National Mekong Committee (CNMC), presided over a high-level meeting to disseminate the 2025 work results and the implementation directions for 2026 of the CNMC. The meeting took place at the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology’s conference hall.
Scope of Application
The activities and directions apply to all members of the CNMC, related national authorities, and relevant development and cooperation partners involved in the governance, management, and development of the Cambodian section of the Mekong River basin.
Key Provisions or Decisions
The Minister acknowledged and highly valued the achievements under the CNMC’s efforts in 2025, highlighting active participation, full support, and close cooperation among ministry leaders, members of the CNMC, officials, national stakeholders, dialogue partners, development partners, and other cooperation partners within the Mekong Committee framework.
The meeting emphasized continued joint efforts to address various challenges in the Mekong River basin to foster sustainable, equitable, and resilient development, particularly in response to climate change.
His Excellency expressed firm confidence that through ongoing participation, support, and strengthened cooperation of all parties, the 2026 work plan and the 2024-2028 strategic plan of the CNMC would be successfully implemented, advancing the national vision of “Stronger cooperation within the single Mekong framework, single mindset” and achieving sustainable development goals: economic prosperity, social justice, environmental protection, and climate resilience in the Mekong basin and regional levels.
Implications for Investors, Businesses, or Compliance
While this meeting and its results pertain primarily to governance and coordination frameworks, their successful implementation influences national and regional water resource management policies. Stakeholders engaged in sectors dependent on Mekong basin resources should consider the evolving interministerial and intergovernmental cooperation mechanisms that may impact regulatory or operational environments.
