Expulsion of 629 Foreign Nationals for Illegal Entry and Employment in Cambodia

Background

On February 6, 2026, the General Department of Immigration (GDI) of Cambodia implemented an enforcement operation to expel foreign nationals found to have entered the country illegally and/or worked without authorization.

Scope of Application

The operation targeted 629 foreign nationals (including 62 women) of 11 nationalities: Philippines, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, China, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Myanmar, Ghana, and others. These individuals were identified for unauthorized stay and employment across Cambodia.

Key Provisions or Decisions

The expulsion followed directives from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and senior leadership of the Ministry of Interior. The GDI investigation and procedural implementation involved coordination at international air police posts, including at Phnom Penh International Airport (Techo Airport) and Siem Reap International Airport (Angkor Airport).

Implications for Investors, Businesses, or Compliance

This enforcement underscores the Cambodian government’s commitment to immigration and labor law compliance. Investors and businesses employing foreign nationals should ensure proper work permits and legal authorizations to avoid penalties or forced repatriations. It emphasizes the need for rigorous compliance measures related to foreign worker recruitment and documentation.
