Technical Handover of Battambang City Wastewater Drainage and Treatment Sub-Projects

Background

On February 10, 2026, Undersecretary of State Ros Vanna of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) chaired the technical handover inspection of two wastewater infrastructure sub-projects in Battambang City. These include the construction of the wastewater drainage system and wastewater treatment station on the east side of the canal, and the construction of a drainage system and wastewater treatment station on the west side of the canal.

Scope of Application

The east canal sub-project is part of the Phase 2 Environmental Management Improvement Project around Tonle Sap Lake, covering 612.34 hectares in Prek Preah Sdach and Rattanak Sangkat districts. The wastewater treatment station site covers an area of 10.02 hectares.

The west canal sub-project is under the Provincial Clean Water Supply and Sanitation Project, covering 200 hectares across Chomkar Samraong, Ochar, Slaket, Toul Lot Ek, and Svay Po Sangkat districts. The associated wastewater treatment facility occupies 8.9 hectares.

Key Provisions or Decisions

The purpose of the handover inspection was to verify the technical completion and acceptance of these sub-projects ahead of their official commissioning. The projects involved coordination among the ministry delegation, deputy undersecretary, project directors, deputy general directors, technical experts, representatives from the Battambang Provincial Department of Public Works and Transport, consulting firms, and construction contractors.

Implications for Investors, Businesses, or Compliance

These infrastructure developments are critical to improving urban environmental management and sanitation services in Battambang City. They provide foundational public utilities necessary for sustainable urban growth and compliance with provincial water and sanitation standards. Early knowledge of such infrastructure progress supports informed decision-making in related investment, urban development, and environmental compliance sectors.
