Background
On February 19, 2026, H.E. Thor Chetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, accompanied by H.E. Say Samal, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, conducted an on-site inspection of the planned location for Techo Sen Radar Station No. 2. This facility is to be established on Phnom Prasith Mountain in Chhvang Commune, Ponhea Leu District, Kandal Province. The radar station’s installation is financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Scope of Application
This Doppler Radar installation is envisaged as a key asset for real-time meteorological data acquisition in Cambodia. It supports enhanced precision and effectiveness in weather and climate forecasting. Beyond meteorology, the radar data will be instrumental in water resource management and serve various sectors including agriculture, industry, tourism, and transportation, especially in adapting to global climate change challenges.
Key Provisions or Decisions
The decision to install a second Techo Sen Doppler Radar station reflects Cambodia’s commitment to strengthening national infrastructure for meteorological monitoring. The selected site at Phnom Prasith Mountain was inspected to verify suitability for the radar installation, ensuring optimal operational capacity. Financing and technical implementation are supported by ADB.
Implications for Investors, Businesses, or Compliance
The deployment of this advanced radar system will provide critical environmental data that can improve planning and risk management for sectors dependent on accurate weather information. This infrastructure enhancement offers long-term benefits in resource management and climate resilience, impacting agricultural productivity, industrial operations, tourism activities, and transportation logistics.
