Background
On 23 February 2026, Her Excellency Chan Sinat, Secretary of State, led a delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to inspect the progress of Subproject No. 15 of the irrigation system under the Agricultural Sector Improvement Project (IAIP) in Takeo province. The IAIP, funded by the ADB, aims to increase agricultural productivity and rural economic development by improving irrigation systems and water resource management across Cambodia.
Scope of Application
The IAIP is implemented across irrigation systems in four provinces: 1) Kompong Puoy irrigation system in Battambang province, 2) Prek Pod irrigation system in Kampong Cham province, 3) Stueng Chinith irrigation system in Kompong Thom province, and 4) Irrigation canal No. 15 in Takeo province.
Key Provisions or Decisions
The review confirmed that the Subproject No. 15 in Takeo province has reached approximately 80% completion. The modernization of Canal No. 15 and the installation of an automated pumping station constitute strategic measures to strengthen water security for multiple sectors and adapt to climate change effects. The upgraded irrigation canal is expected to facilitate agricultural transport during the rainy season and enhance local tourism by developing the canal banks as recreational areas.
