Background
The Stueng Khleang water resource development project is located in Trapang Tmey and Samkikei villages within Ta Sala and Rasmey Samkikei communes, Oral district, Kampong Speu province. The site is approximately 82 kilometers from Chbar Mon city and about 120 kilometers from Phnom Penh capital.
Scope of Application
The project covers hydraulic infrastructure development to supply water for agricultural irrigation, domestic consumption, industrial production lines, and environmental conservation across multiple provinces including Phnom Penh, Kampong Speu, Kandal, and Takeo.
Key Provisions or Decisions
Key infrastructural components under construction include one main dam, one regulating dam, one water gate, one dam management building, a 13-kilometer access road, and water drainage constructions alongside the road. The construction timeline spans 36 months from December 2025 to December 2028.
The dam will ensure water security by providing irrigation for 35,000 hectares of wet-season rice and 5,000 hectares of dry-season rice. It also supports daily clean water supply, industrial water needs, flood and drought risk mitigation, natural tourism area development, biodiversity improvement, and enhanced aquatic resources for wildlife and fisheries.
Implications for Investors, Businesses, or Compliance
This project is significant for stakeholders in agriculture, industry, environmental management, and tourism due to its role in securing water supplies, reducing natural disaster risks, and supporting sustainable socio-economic development in critical provinces.
